Why did we choose to offer the IB Diploma Programme?

Bogaerts International School embraces the beliefs and values in the IB Mission statement and shares the IB DP’s commitment to growth, global citizenship, ethics, and self- actualisation. We believe in the power of agency, student voice and engagement, and in approaching teaching and learning with a growth mindset and a proactive spirit. We strive to sustain a learning environment in which well-being and a balanced approach to teaching, learning and assessment serve as the driving forces to succeed. As such, we celebrate our decision to adopt pedagogies that welcome thinking back into the classroom, that build community, and that empower students to find relevance in the experiences they undergo.

A LEARNER-CENTRED, CONTEXTUAL APPROACH

Students are required to study one subject from each of the five subject groups (Language & Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences and Mathematics), along with an arts subject from group 6, or a second subjects from groups 1 to 5. All DP students must choose three courses at Higher Level (HL) and three courses at Standard Level (SL).

Thus, curriculum in the MY is developed with the learner and his or her needs and goals toward this development at its heart. The end result, we find, is a student who exemplifies the IB learner profile. This profile of personal qualities, rather than a narrow focus on subject and fact mastery, is what will make such a difference in a student’s future.
