At Bogaerts International School North Campus, we celebrate our cultural and linguistic diversity and we want everyone in our community and context to explicitly witness it. For this reason, we enjoy the freedom to speak our home languages and any other language(s) we speak in the surroundings of the school. English is the medium of instruction in the school, but it is not a rule to speak it at all times.
In our second year of existence, and as we continue to grow, we hope that we continue to intentionally make the celebration of our cultural and linguistic diversity more visual. We are taking strong steps in our library, because libraries are community hubs and homes to stories and narratives. They connect people to information and connect people to people. They are safe havens for teachers and students, providing opportunities to travel, to dream, to inquiry, and to learn.
Access to narratives from different backgrounds bridges understanding, and that is one way in which we want our library to serve: as a tool that brings voices, stories, perspectives, and peoples closer to us. For this reason, not only do we continue to expand the variety of languages in our collection, but also the voices of different individuals.
Having access to books and to read for pleasure is a gift, and we do not want to take it lightly.
